Blooming Marvelous News!!
Herefordshire College of Technology floristry tutor, Tina Pound, has come first in a prestigious Royal Horticultural Society regional final.
The Chelsea Florist of the Year competition is held annually and regional heats take place throughout the UK. The Midlands heat was held on Thursday 8th October at a well known floristry wholesaler in Birmingham.
This year's competition brief was to create and design a ‘funeral tribute for a keen gardener'. Fresh flowers and foliage needed to be predominant and the judges were looking for a high standard of composition and technique.
Tina, who is a floristry tutor at the College's Holme Lacy campus, took inspiration for her design from her grandfather who always said he would not grow anything he could not sell or eat.
Included in the beautiful heart shaped arrangement were Gerberas, Broccoli, Toad Lilies, Orchids and Willow. Clearly impressing the judges with the craftsmanship that had gone in to the stunning display, Tina won first place. She will now have the opportunity to compete against 15 other hopefuls at the 2010 Chelsea Flower show for this years title of Chelsea Florist of the Year.
