College of the Year Competition 2009
2009 sees the launch of The Society of Floristry College of the Year Competition. The colleges and educational bodies associated with the Society of Floristry will compete for recognition, acclaim and award, weighted with The Society of Floristry's highly regarded reputation as the industry's independent voice.

We would also like to extend our best wishes to runner-up Reaseheath College. Thank you to everyone that took part in the competition and for making it such a success.
Final
Following the them of the ‘A La Mode' theme of the 2009 Society of Floristry Annual Show, the title for the final for our College of the Year competition is 'Flowers and Fashion'.
Competition Guidelines for Finalists
Select a Fashion House for your display.
- Design and construct a mood-board on an easel of your own construction depicting your ideas and inspirations behind your designs, and showing how flowers and fashion can be incorporated together. Any materials can be used, but it must include some floral materials. (To be pre-made and displayed in your alcove on the day)
- Design and construct an outfit on your own mannequin (Can be brought ready made).
- Design and construct a floor standing exhibit, to launch the "Summer Collection" of your chosen Fashion House (2 students allowed)
- Design and construct a body adornment for a model to wear (1 student to construct, 1 student to wear the completed design, in a suitable outfit)
- Surprise package (1 student allowed)
- Decorate the alcove to enhance your designs, materials of your own choice (3 students along with the model)
Rules and Regulations
- All competitors must be current students at a College Member of Society of Floristry.
- Competitors will have an alcove 2.5 metres wide by 2metres deep, painted black, and all items must be displayed within this area Please note nothing is allowed to be attached to the walls of the alcove.
- The competition is to be held in the BFA Competition Arena.
- All materials as stated in schedule must be provided by you, with the exception of the surprise package.
- For items 2 to 5 a maximum of 4 students are allowed Different students must be used for item 3 to 5.
- The competition will be judged by 2 Society of Floristry and Judges Guild members.
- Colleges will be allocated an early morning vehicle pass and 7 entry tickets.
Dismantling of displays will not be allowed until the show closes and a vehicle pass will be issued.

9.30 Registration and meet the Judges.
10.00am to 10.30am Displaying of Mannequin
10.45am to 12.15pm Floor Standing Display
12.15pm to 1.00pm Lunch Break
1.00pm to 2.00pm Body Adornment
2.10pm to 3.15pm Surprise Package
3.15pm to 3.30pm Break
3.30pm to 4.00pm Decorating and Placing of all designs in alcove
The Competition will take place in the BFA Marquee Competition Arena. Please visit the area and support the contestants - spectators are welcome.
The Prize
The winning college will receive:
- The Society of Floristry College of the year 2009 Trophy
- 2 page spread in Focal Point
- Photographs of their work on the website for a year
- The opportunity to showcase their winning design in the front foyer at the SoF Annual Show
